Step length predicts executive dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease: A 3-year prospective study
Journal of Neurology Jul 19, 2018
Amboni M, et al. - Researchers examined if the dysfunction of specific gait parameters during a specific task and medication conditions could forecast subsequent cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease (PD) was examined in this prospective study. For this investigation, cognition and gait in 39 Parkinsonian patients were evaluated at an initial assessment and after 3 years. The only significant predictor of executive/attention domain dysfunction at follow up was the step length during the cognitive dual task during the on state at the initial evaluation. Study findings suggested that step length during a cognitive task when on medication was an independent predictor of future executive/attention decline.
