Step-down of inhaled corticosteroids in non-eosinophilic asthma: A prospective trial in real life
Clinical & Experimental Allergy Feb 04, 2018
Demarche S, et al. - This investigation was conducted to evaluate the proportion of non-eosinophilic asthmatics in whom inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) may be withdrawn without any clinical degradation. The predictive markers of a failure to stop treatment with ICS in this population were also determined. Irrespective of baseline asthma control, it was feasible to withdraw or attenuate the dose of ICS in two-thirds of non-eosinophilic asthmatics. Furthermore, an elevated blood eosinophil count may predict the failure to stop ICS.
