Steatotic and nonsteatotic scirrhous hepatocellular carcinomas reveal distinct clinicopathological features
Human Pathology Mar 31, 2019
Hatano M, et al. - The clinicopathological and molecular features of scirrhous hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were explored by researchers to illustrate its distinctiveness. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed on samples from 120 resected cases of HCC. They assessed tumor areas containing fibrous stroma and the percentage of steatotic cells inside the tumor. According to findings, scirrhous HCC (sHCC) has been acknowledged with fibrous stroma in 50% or more of the tumor area. In steatotic and nonsteatotic sHCC, unique clinicopathological features were observed. There were different clinicopathological and molecular characteristics of both sHCC subgroups, supporting scirrhous HCC as an independent entity.
