Statins for primary prevention of cardiovascular events and mortality in older men
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Sep 15, 2017
Orkaby AR, et al. - This study appraised statins as primary prophylactics in relation to risk of cardiovascular events or mortality in an elderly male population. Statin use in older male physicians ≥70 years of age was found to be related to significantly reduced mortality risk. Statin use was also associated with a nonsignificant lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. No variation was evident in the results exhibited by those who were >76 years at baseline or according to functional status. Subjects with elevated total cholesterol were expected to derive benefit from statin use.
