Statins associate with improved mortality among patients with certain histological subtypes of lung cancer
Lung Cancer Dec 10, 2018
Ung MH, et al. - Researchers utilized the SEER-Medicare linked database for a cohort of 19,974 individuals with incident lung cancer between 2007 and 2011, to assess the link between statin exposure and mortality in lung cancer patients belonging to different categories of histological subtype. To unveil the associations, they analyzed statin exposure both pre- and post-diagnosis. They reported extended survival in non-small-cell lung cancer subtypes (including squamous-cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma) in association with baseline or post-diagnostic exposure to simvastatin and atorvastatin. A consistent evidence supporting this finding was obtained.
