Statins and the risk of polyneuropathy: A systematic review and two meta‐analyses
Muscle & Nerve Oct 29, 2021
Wannarong T, Chaikijurajai T, Preston DC, et al. - Findings demonstrate that the use of statins was not significantly associated with the risk of polyneuropathy (PN).
Cohort and case-control studies comparing the risk of incident PN between statin-users and non-users were selected from MEDLINE and EMBASE databases, and 4,968 articles were retrieved.
Two meta-analyses were conducted including six eligible studies in non-diabetic populations and two eligible studies in diabetic populations.
In pooled analyses, no statistically significant link was found between the use of statins and risk of incident PN; pooled odds ratios were 1.24 and 0.82 in non-diabetic and diabetic groups respectively.
A high degree of heterogeneity of the meta-analyses was evident.
