Kamran H, et al. - Accumulating evidence indicates that new-onset diabetes mellitus (NODM) is a consequence of statin use. Researchers explored the links between NODM and statin use, via meta-analysis of relevant studies. Based on the findings, careful monitoring for NODM in statin consumers appeared crucial, though it can be argued that the multitude of cardiovascular and kidney-protective effects of statin therapy offset the NODM risk associated with its use.
