Statin use protective for chronic rhinosinusitis in a nationally representative sample of the United States
The Laryngoscope Mar 27, 2020
Wilson JH, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective database review to examine whether statins have clinical utility in treating chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). To analyze the link between statin use and rates of CRS, the 2006 to 2015 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey data have been queried. In the weighted analysis dataset, there were 390,538 unweighted visit records used, corresponding to 9,612,613,668 weighted visits. Based on a nationally representative sample of outpatient visits in the United States, statin use is linked to reduced rates of CRS. This supports research which indicates that statin medications can have protective properties against CRS, and further research on their potential therapeutic value for this indication is needed.
