Kim G, et al. - The researchers conducted this nationwide nested case-control study to examine the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after statin use in the whole general population and to assess the effects of preexisting diabetes mellitus (DM) and liver cirrhosis (LC) on that risk. At high risk for HCC, statin use could have a beneficial inhibitory effect on HCC development, especially among patients with DM or LC.
