Statin therapy is associated with higher long-term but not perioperative survival after abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
Journal of Vascular Surgery Mar 30, 2018
O'Donnell TFX, et al. - Researchers examined the association of statin therapy with survival after abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair and the benefits of starting statins in patients with AAA not currently taking them. In patients undergoing AAA repair, preoperative statin therapy was observed to be associated with higher long-term survival but not perioperative mortality and morbidity. Markedly higher survival was observed in association with initiating statin therapy in previously statin-naive patients. They recommended administering statin therapy to all patients with AAAs without contraindications.
