Statin and clinical outcomes of primary prevention in individuals aged >75 years: The SCOPE-75 study
Atherosclerosis May 02, 2019
Kim K, et al. - In this retrospective, propensity score-matched study, researchers investigated the efficacy of statin treatment for primary prevention in reducing cardiovascular risk and all-cause mortality in individuals aged > 75 years. They included 1,559 statin-naïve patients who did not have any history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease prior to the index visit. The final analysis included 1,278 patients (639 statin users and 639 statin non-users) upon propensity score-matching. According to findings, statin therapy for primary prevention was clearly related to an attenuated risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in this patient population. The authors also recommended more active use of statin treatment in this population.
