State of evidence in minimally invasive management of gastroesophageal reflux: Findings of a scoping review
Gastroenterology Jul 05, 2020
Vaezi MF, Shaheen NJ, Muthusamy VR, et al. - In this study, the volume of available evidence on the benefit of endoscopic and minimally surgical therapies for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was investigated. Researchers applied A priori criteria to conduct an extensive literature search of data regarding the reported benefit of endoscopic therapies in GERD. They employed randomized controlled studies when available; nevertheless, data from observational studies were also examined. The data showed that, for GERD therapy, the endoluminal and minimally invasive surgical devices are a promising alternative to PPI therapy. For GERD, their place in the treatment algorithm will be better characterized when important clinical parameters, particularly durability of impact, are better understood.
