Stapled anastomosis versus hand-sewn anastomosis of gastro/duodenojejunostomy in pancreaticoduodenectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Surgery | Oct 10, 2017
Hajibandeh S, et al. - This study assessed perioperative outcomes among patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) with stapled anastomosis (SA) or with hand-sewn anastomosis (HA) of gastrojejunostomy or duodenojejunostomy. According to findings, SA versus conventional HA may afford lower incidence of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) after PD without increasing the risk of clinically significant postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF), anastomotic leak or mortality. But, the observed association of SA with higher rate of anastomotic bleeding mandated careful and precise haemostasis of the stapled line. Overall, no definitive conclusion was drawn due to the limited current evidence.
