Standard-interval size affects interval-discrimination thresholds for pure-tone melodic pitch intervals
Hearing Research Dec 16, 2017
McClaskey CM - The authors determined how pitch-interval discrimination was affected by the size of the intervals being compared, and by musical training. The findings unveiled prominent variation in the thresholds with the magnitude of the reference interval. They appeared to be higher for conditions with a 6- or 7-semitone standard than a 1-semitone standard. Hence, it was deduced that the interval-discrimination thresholds exerted a strong impact by the size of the standard interval.
