Spontaneous and repeat spontaneous abortion risk in relation to occupational characteristics among working Korean women: A cross-sectional analysis of nationally representative data from Korea
BMC Public Health Oct 31, 2019
Lee W, et al. - Researchers undertook this cross-sectional analysis to determine the risk of spontaneous abortion (SA) and occupational factors such as occupational categorization, working hours, and work schedules among 4,078 working Korean women aged > 19 years selected from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys V (2010–2012) database. They collected data on SA history and the number of SAs. In 5.7% the overall sample, the occurrence of SA was documented. They noted that pink-, green-, and blue-collared workers vs white-collared workers had significantly higher ORs (95% CIs) for SA. With regard to weekly working hours, the ORs (95% CIs) estimated for 51–60, 61–70, and > 70 h per week vs ≤ 50 h spent working were 1.26 (0.87–1.84), 1.63 (1.04–2.56), and 1.73 (1.10–2.70), respectively. Pink- and green-collared workers and those who worked long hours were found to have a significantly higher weighted prevalence of repeat SAs. Overall, a significant link was identified between SA, repeat SA, and occupational features in working Korean women.
