Saxena A, et al. – Researchers sought to reveal the impact of splenectomy on peri–operative outcomes after cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC). For poorer peri–operative outcomes, they found splenectomy as an independent risk factor. Via careful dissection and routine vaccination, minimizing the likelihood of inadvertent splenic injury had the potential to improve outcomes.
