Specific higher levels of serum uric acid might have a protective effect on bone mineral density within a Chinese population over 60 years old: A cross-sectional study from northeast China
Clinical Interventions in Aging Jun 15, 2019
Chen F, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers examined a Chinese population older than 60 years old in northeast China, to assess the link between serum uric acid (UA) and bone mineral density (BMD). Participants were 3465 Chinese subjects in nine communities from the city of Shenyang. According to serum UA or BMD levels, they stratified participants into three groups. The link between serum UA and BMD was assessed using Pearson’s correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Findings revealed an association between higher serum UA levels and greater BMD. Because of antioxidant properties, a possible protective impact of serum UA on bone metabolism was suggested.
