Spatial and temporal patterns of prostate cancer burden and their association with Socio-Demographic Index in Asia, 1990–2019
The Prostate Oct 28, 2021
Luo LS, Jiang JF, Luan HH, et al. - Findings demonstrate a rapid increase in prostate cancer burden throughout Asia from 1990 to 2019, as well as persistent substantial disparities between countries. Burden due to prostate cancer can be attenuated throughout Asia and in specific countries by implementing geographically targeted interventions.
Changing spatial and temporal trends of prostate cancer burden were studied in 48 Asian countries from 1990 to 2019, by utilizing data from the Global Health Data Exchange query tool.
An overall increase in age-standardized incidence and prevalence of prostate cancer as well as an increase in its mortality and disability-adjusted life year (DALY) in over half of the countries was evident.
Observed regional disparities were significant, and hot spots were all located in Western Asia.
A positive correlation of Socio-Demographic Index with mortality as well as its negative correlation with DALY and mortality-to-incidence ratio was evident.
