Soluble siglec-5 is a novel salivary biomarker for primary Sjogren's syndrome
Journal of Autoimmunity Apr 02, 2019
Lee J, et al. - Researchers evaluated the concentration of sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin (siglec)-5 in saliva and sera by ELISA to estimate if siglec-5 in saliva could be a biomarker for Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS). They observed a significantly higher level of salivary siglec-5 in pSS cases when compared with HCs, non-SS sicca cases or subjects with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). They found a negative correlation of salivary siglec-5 level with salivary flow rate whereas positive with an ocular surface score as well as serum immunoglobulin G level.
