Sole and combined vitamin C supplementation can prevent postoperative atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Clinical Cardiology May 19, 2018
Shi R, et al. - Researchers assessed the effect of vitamin C supplementation (vitamin C solely or as adjunct to other therapy) on prevention of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in patients after cardiac surgery through a systematic review and meta-analysis. They systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library to identify randomized controlled trials evaluating the impact of vitamin C supplementation in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery. In addition, the meta-analysis was performed with a random-effects model. They suggested that use of vitamin C alone and as adjunct to other therapy could prevent POAF in patients undergoing cardiac surgery and should be advised for patients receiving cardiac surgery for prevention of POAF.
