Sodium intake and blood pressure in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis of experimental and observational studies
International Journal of Epidemiology Jul 02, 2018
Leyvraz M, et al. - Researchers studied the link between sodium intake and blood pressure in children and adolescents by analyzing evidence from experimental and observational studies. They pooled data across all studies and performed random-effects meta-analyses. They also carried out subgroup meta-analyses, sensitivity analyses and meta-regressions to determine sources of heterogeneity and confounding. Findings revealed a positive association of sodium intake with blood pressure in children and adolescents, with consistent findings in experimental and observational studies. To lower blood pressure and prevent the development of hypertension, reduction of sodium intake during childhood and adolescence was recommended.
