Socioeconomic influences on short-term postoperative outcomes in patients with oral cavity cancer undergoing free flap reconstruction
Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery May 31, 2021
Lee J, Fernando SJ, Malenke JA, et al. - Via this retrospective review, researchers examined the links between median household income (MHI) and area deprivation index (ADI) on postoperative results in oral cavity cancer. The study sample comprised 681 patients, 91.3% White and 38.0% female, and 51.7% had stage IV disease. According to findings, MHI was identified to be related to oral cavity cancer staging at the time of presentation. Experts found independent links of both MHI and ADI with postoperative return to oral intake after intraoral tumor resection and free flap reconstruction.
