Sociodemographic factors as determinants of disease, disability and quality of life trajectories in early rheumatoid arthritis: A multi-ethnic inception cohort study
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Nov 29, 2019
Zou Y, et al. - Data were obtained prospectively over 3 years in the Singapore Early Arthritis Cohort study in order to explain the relationship between sociodemographic factors and trajectories of disease, disability and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in early RA (ERA). Two hundred and thirteen people (58.2% Chinese, 16.4% Malay, 21.6% Indian) were involved. In the analysis of individual outcomes, determinants of the heterogeneous disease activity trajectories were ethnicity, education level, and BMI while determinants of the disability trajectories were gender and education level. The only determinant of the HRQoL trajectories was gender. Moreover, 96.2% of the individuals were treated with conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs. Thus, in the formation of treatment approaches in ERA, disparities in sociodemographic factors should be considered.
