Sociodemographic disparities in the occurrence of medical conditions among adolescent and young adult Hodgkin lymphoma survivors
Cancer Causes and Control Apr 19, 2018
Keegan THM, et al. - Using the California Cancer Registry, researchers determined the effect of race/ethnicity, neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES), and health insurance on the occurrence of medical conditions (≥ 2 years after diagnosis) and the influence of medical conditions on survival among adolescent and young adult (AYA) Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) survivors. A higher likelihood of endocrine and circulatory system diseases was observed in Black HL survivors (vs non-Hispanic Whites). A higher likelihood of circulatory system diseases, respiratory system diseases, chronic kidney disease/renal failure, liver disease, and endocrine diseases was reported for AYAs with public or no insurance (vs private/military). Higher likelihood of respiratory system and endocrine diseases was noted in those residing in low SES neighborhoods (vs high). Strategies to improve health care utilization for surveillance and secondary prevention among AYA HL survivors at increased risk of medical conditions may improve outcomes.
