Socio-economic factors do not affect overall survival in soft tissue sarcoma when patients treated at a single high-volume center
BMC Cancer May 31, 2021
Eastman BM, Hippe DS, Wootton LS, et al. - In this retrospective study of 435 soft tissue sarcoma (STS) patients treated at a single institution, researchers focused on the influence of socio-economic factors on overall survival (OS) in STS patients managed at a high-volume center. Most commonly, patients were privately insured (38%), married (67%) and retired or unemployed (43%). Most of the patients (52%) received neoadjuvant therapy followed by resection. In contrast to previous reports, no significant link was found between socioeconomic factors and OS in patients with STS treated at a single high-volume center. The importance of socio-economic factors in the OS of STS may be mitigated by treatment at a high volume institution.
