Hao G, et al. – This study ascertained whether or not difficulty in social participation exhibited a link with perceived depression, among older individuals in South Africa. It was noted that targeting the barriers to engaging in community activities could minimize the burden of depression among the elderly individuals in South Africa. The analysis of social and structural barriers which constrained community participation among the elderly warranted advanced studies.
