Social determinants of health and survivorship in parotid cancer: An analysis of the National Cancer Database
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Nov 29, 2019
Stubbs VC, et al. - Researchers investigated the relationship between two key social determinants of health, demographics and socioeconomic status, and parotid malignancy survival rates using the large sample population of the National Cancer Database (NCDB). The NCDB yielded data of 15,815 cases who met the inclusion criteria for this work. The analysis revealed an association of male gender and older age at diagnosis with poorer overall survival. Asian Americans vs whites had better overall survival. Black patients vs whites showed improved survival on univariate; but not on multivariate analysis. They identified the protective effect of hispanic ethnicity and higher education levels. No significant survival association based on income level was identified.
