European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jul 29, 2020
Al-Hassany L, Wahab RJ, Steegers EAP, et al. - Via performing a population-based prospective cohort study among 7,389 women, researchers here investigated the correlations of smoking cessation in early-pregnancy with gestational weight gain. Further, they evaluated the risks of pregnancy complications among women who quit smoking in early-pregnancy according to their gestational weight gain. Questionnaires and medical records were used to obtain information on smoking and pregnancy complications. Analysis revealed no increased gestational weight gain in correlation with smoking cessation in early-pregnancy as compared with continued smoking during pregnancy. Among women who quit smoking in early-pregnancy, there was no strong effect of higher gestational weight gain on their risks of pregnancy complications.
