Smoking as a risk factor for lung cancer in women and men: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMJ Open Oct 08, 2018
O’Keeffe LM, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis of data from 29 studies (representing 7 million individuals) to examine the sex-specific relationship between smoking and lung cancer. They searched PubMed and EMBASE from January 1, 1999, to April 15, 2016, to identify relevant cohort studies. Results suggested that the impact of smoking on risk of lung cancer is similar in women and men. However, the smoking epidemic is not yet fully mature in women and risks of lung cancer in women may still be underestimated.
