Smoking and Helicobacter pylori infection: An individual participant pooled analysis (Stomach Cancer Pooling- StoP Project)
European Journal of Cancer Prevention Oct 09, 2019
Ferro A, Morais S, Pelucchi C, et al. - Researchers undertook an individual participant data pooled analysis in order to estimate the link between smoking and seropositivity to H. pylori, by using controls from 14 case–control studies participating in the Stomach Cancer Pooling Project. Estimation of summary odds ratios and prevalence ratios, adjusted for age, sex and social class, as well as of the corresponding 95% confidence intervals was done via random-effects meta-analysis. Relied on detailed and uniform information and adjusting for major covariates, the pooled estimates for the abovementioned link were provided in this first collaborative study addressing this topic. A link between smoking and H. pylori infection was not supported by the findings.
