Smartphone-enabled video-observed versus directly observed treatment for tuberculosis: A multicentre, analyst-blinded, randomised, controlled superiority trial
The Lancet Feb 27, 2019
Story A, et al. - Researchers compared treatment observation with asynchronous video-observed therapy (VOT) vs in-person directly observed treatment (DOT) for supporting treatment adherence in patients with active tuberculosis in England. According to this multicenter, analyst-blinded, randomized, controlled superiority trial, VOT was a more effective tuberculosis treatment approach than DOT. For many patients in a wide range of settings, VOT is likely to be preferable to DOT, providing a more acceptable, effective and cheaper option for daily and multiple daily doses than DOT. The most common adverse events reported were stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.
