Small airway involvement in the late allergic response in asthma
Clinical & Experimental Allergy Oct 04, 2017
Stenberg H, et al. - In this study, researchers investigated and compared the pathophysiological processes in large and small airways during the early allergic response (EAR) and the late allergic response (LAR). Furthermore, they characterized subjects with both an EAR and a LAR (dual responders) versus those with an EAR only (single responders). Findings indicated small airway dysfunction during the LAR. This was suggestive of the possibility of more extensive airway pathology in dual responders and emphasized the relevance of small airways assessment in asthma.
