Sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass lead to comparable changes in body composition in a multiethnic Asian population
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery Sep 08, 2018
Kim G, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective review of prospectively collected data on 295 patients who underwent either laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (256 patients) or laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (39 patients) to study changes in body composition in a multiethnic Asian population and to assess differences between these two procedures. They measured body composition variables with the analyzer, GAIA 359 PLUS, which includes total body weight, body mass index, excess weight, basal metabolic rate, fat-free mass, fat mass, and total body water. There were no significant differences in these parameters between patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy vs gastric bypass.
