Sleep quality and sleep duration with CKD are associated with progression to ESKD
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Nov 22, 2018
Yamamoto R, et al. - In a 4-year prospective cohort study, the CKD Japan Cohort (CKD-JAC) Study, performed in 17 nephrology centers in Japan, researchers examined the association of sleep duration and sleep quality with incidence of ESKD in 1,601 CKD patients using multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models. Participants had eGFR 10–59 ml/min per 1.73 m2 and were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. According to findings, ESKD in these subjects was observed in association with both a shorter (≤5 hour) and longer (>8 hour) sleep duration and poor sleep quality (PSQI global score ≥6).
