Sleep duration and sleep disturbances in association with falls among the middle-aged and older adults in China: A population-based nationwide study
BMC Geriatrics Sep 02, 2018
Essien SK, et al. - Considering the literature suggests an association between sleep duration/disturbances and falls, researchers analyzed data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) to determine the association between sleep duration, sleep disturbances and falls among middle-aged and older adults in China, controlling for psychosocial, lifestyle, socio-demographical factors and comorbidity. Outcomes suggest an independent association between falls and short sleep duration and disturbed sleep among these adults. This emphasizes the necessity for evidence-based prevention and interventions focused on sleep duration and disturbance in this population.
