Sleep disturbances can be prospectively observed in patients with an inactive inflammatory bowel disease
Digestive Diseases and Sciences Jul 24, 2018
Shitrit ABG, et al. - A pilot study was conducted to prospectively investigate the sleep quality of patients with an inactive inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Participants in the study were 36 consecutive patients with IBD (with inactive disease) and 27 healthy volunteers. Researchers collected data on disease duration, medications, complications, and treatment from the medical records. Significantly less rapid eye movement (REM) sleep was seen in the IBD group vs. control, and light sleep percentage and REM latency were also longer in the IBD group. The findings from the present study suggested that inactive IBD was correlated with sleep disturbances.
