Sleep disturbances and sleep disorders in adults living with chronic pain: A meta-analysis

Mathias JL, et al. - From inception to June 2017, researchers searched PubMed, PsychINFO and Embase to explore sleep disturbances and sleep disorders in people living with chronic pain (CP). Using the data from 37 studies, Hedge’s g effect sizes, and prevalence rates were calculated. According to objective polysomnographic measures, people with CP experienced significant sleep disturbances, especially with respect to sleep initiation and maintenance. In persons with CP, clinically diagnosed sleep disorders were very prevalent. They suggested that sleep problems should always be evaluated and then treated in conjunction with CP.
