Sleep disordered breathing and ventilatory support in children with Down syndrome

Trucco F, et al. - In this retrospective study, the researchers described the types of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) in children with Down syndrome (DS) referred to a tertiary respiratory center, and evaluated efficacy of and adherence to respiratory support. Participants in the study were DS subjects < 18 years old under follow-up at a tertiary respiratory center. The high frequency of obstructive sleep apnea (OSAS) in children with DS was found. The data presented in this work showed a significant number also have low baseline saturations, central apneas, and nocturnal hypoventilation. It was observed that more than half of children with DS had satisfactory adherence to respiratory support.
