Sleep difficulties, incident dementia and all‐cause mortality among older adults across 8 years: Findings from the national health and aging trends study
Journal of Sleep Research Jun 07, 2021
Robbins R, Weaver MD, Barger LK, et al. - This research attempted to explore the association between sleep difficulties, incident dementia, and all-cause mortality over 8 years of follow-up among a nationally representative sample of older (≥ 65 years) adults in the United States. Data were obtained from the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS) from 2011 to 2018, a prospective cohort study of Medicare beneficiaries. The NHATS sample comprised 6,376 older adults who were representative of 32 million older adults at baseline. The data indicate that reported difficulties are prospectively associated with an increased risk of dementia and all-cause mortality among older people.
