Skeletal muscle mass in acute coronary syndrome prognosis: Gender-based analysis from Hellenic Heart Failure cohort
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Mar 31, 2019
Kouvari M, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed the gender-specific effect of skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) on 10-year recurrent fatal/non-fatal cardiovascular disease (CVD) event in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In all, they noted an AU-shape association between SMI and 10-year CVD event, particularly in women. They also observed gender-specific remarks with respect to the "obesity-lean paradox," suggesting that high muscle mass accompanied by obesity and excess adiposity might not ensure better prognosis.
