Schiffer BL, et al. - Among 20 patients (aged 3 to 17 years) presented with recurrent parotitis, researchers sought to optimize the diagnosis of pediatric Sjögren syndrome. For this investigation, they reviewed presenting symptoms, serologies, sialendoscopy findings, and minor salivary gland biopsy pathology outcomes. In pediatric patients who present with recurrent parotitis, Sjögren syndrome is surprisingly common. Otolaryngologists treating pediatric parotitis should have a high level of concern about Sjögren syndrome.
