Size and volume of kidney stones in computed tomography: influence of acquisition techniques and image reconstruction parameters
European Journal of Radiology Sep 10, 2020
Reimer RP, Salem J, Merkt M, et al. - Thie present study was conducted to assess the influence of acquisition techniques and image reconstruction parameters on kidney stone size measurements. Researchers scanned 47 kidney stones of different compositions applying a 64-row-multi-detector CT in a 3D-printed, semi-anthropomorphic phantom. They assessed reference stone sizes manually with a digital caliper (Man-M). ANOVA ± correction was applied to perform statistics for multiple comparisons. Whereas reconstruction algorithms and kernels demonstrate a relevant impact on size measurements., CT-based measurements of kidney stone size seem unaffected by radiation dose and denoising technique The study found the smallest differences applying model-based-iterative reconstruction algorithms with a sharp kernel.
