Six-year retrospective analysis of endoscopic ultrasonography-guided pancreatic ductal interventions at a tertiary referral center
Digestive Endoscopy Sep 22, 2019
Dalal A, et al. - Since endoscopic ultrasonography guided pancreatic ductal intervention (EUS-PDI) acts as rescue therapy in patients who had a retrograde pancreatic duct (PD) access failure at the time of endoscopic retrograde pancreatography (ERP), researchers conducted this retrospective study to review their experience for this procedure. Participants in the study were patients who had EUS-PDI for an unsuccessful ERP and altered anatomy. In total, 44 patients had EUS-PDI with a mean age of 43.5 years. Abdominal pain, pancreatitis, fever, minor bleed, and stripping of wire were recorded adverse events. In patients with unsuccessful ERP, EUS-PDI is an effective treatment modality and salvage therapy. The technical and clinical success of this study is comparable to worldwide studies. The cost-effectiveness of EUS-PDI must be demonstrated in future research.
