Sites of distant metastases and overall survival in ovarian cancer: A study of 1481 patients
Gynecologic Oncology Jul 17, 2018
Deng K, et al. - Researchers assessed how patterns of distant metastases influence overall survival in metastatic ovarian cancer. They also investigated the predictors of site-specific distant metastases. They used the SEER database between 2010 and 2014 for data extraction. To determine variables associated with overall survival, they used univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models. They found that overall survival was influenced by the site of distant metastases. They also observed that surgery and chemotherapy only impacted overall survival for patients with distant lymph node metastases; overall survival in patients with liver metastases are the only ones impacted by age, histological subtype, surgery, and chemotherapy, while histological subtype and chemotherapy affected only patients with lung metastases overall survival. Special treatment and management was recommended for patients with specific distant metastatic sites.
