Sinus bacteriology in patients with cystic fibrosis or primary ciliary dyskinesia: A systematic review

Â The authors explored the available literature regarding the bacterial flora in the sinuses and nasal cavities of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) or primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). They illustrated that S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, coagulase negative staphylococci, and H. influenzae dominated in the upper airways of patients with CF. Whereas, in patients with PCD they observed H. influenzae, S. pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa. In both groups, P. aeruginosa was the most common bacterium.
