Sinonasal/nasopharyngeal pleomorphic adenoma and carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma: A report of 17 surgical cases combined with a literature review
Cancer Management and Research Jun 21, 2019
Li W, et al. - Conducting a retrospective analysis of 17 patients (7 males and 10 females), researchers sought to report on demographic data, location, clinical symptoms, therapeutic methods, pathological features and relapse in sinonasal/nasopharyngeal pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (CXPA). They identified Sinonasal/nasopharyngeal PA and CXPA as rare neoplasms. The nasopharynx was identified to be the most common primary site of PA and CXPA. Given the possibility of arising any salivary carcinoma type in PA, they recommend thoroughly sampling and closely examining these PA sites to prohibit the possibility of malignant transformation. In addition, they recommend treating PA and CXPA as soon as possible after definitive diagnosis and suggest endoscopic resection of tumor-negative margins as beneficial in preventing a recurrence.
