Single- vs multidose cardioplegia in adult cardiac surgery patients: A meta-analysis
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Oct 11, 2019
Gambardella I, et al. - Outcomes of single (intervention group: del Nido [DN], and histamine–tryptophan–ketoglutarate) vs multidose (control group) cardioplegia in the adult cardiac surgery patients were examined. Searching medical search engines, researchers identified 10 randomized controlled trials and 13 propensity-score matched cohorts, with 5,516 patients, for inclusion. Compared with multidose cardioplegia, DN led to a decrease in cardiopulmonary bypass time (MD, −10.44 minutes [−18.99 to −1.88]), reperfusion fibrillation (OR, 0.16 [0.05-0.54]), and surge of cardiac enzymes (SMD −0.17 [−0.29, 0.05]).
