Single vs dual lead atrioventricular sequential pacing for acquired atrioventricular block during transcatheter aortic valve implantation procedures
The American Journal of Cardiology May 23, 2018
Chan WK, et al. - In this retrospective case-controlled study, researchers compared the strategy of AV sequential pacing with a single lead AV sequential pacemaker (VDD) vs dual lead (DDD) pacemaker in consecutive transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) patients with acquired AV block, focusing on procedure characteristics, complications, and the need for long-term ventricular pacing. At 1-year follow-up, 59% of the cohort needed ≥50% ventricular pacing. Overall, in TAVI patients with acquired atrioventricular block (AVB), relative to DDD pacemaker implantation, VDD pacemaker implantation was found to be related to shorter procedure times, lower radiation exposure, and similar safety outcomes.
