Single-port robotic inguinal lymph node dissection for penile cancer
Urology Dec 26, 2021
Abdullatif VA, Davis J, Cavayero C, et al. - In a patient with T3N2M0 penile cancer, a Single-Port robotic inguinal lymph node dissection was associated with a successful surgical outcome, leading to complete freedom from the cancer along with no palpable lymphadenopathy on examination.
This is a case report of a 64-year-old man who had a radical penectomy for previously diagnosed penile cancer, with pathological findings of invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the penis.
Following NCCN guidelines, a bilateral inguinal and pelvic lymph node dissection was performed using robotic assisted single-port (SP) laparoscopy with the DaVinci Single-Site platform.
Total operative time was 3 hours and 38 minutes in duration with minimal blood loss (<20 mL).
A 3 cm inguinal lymph node was removed and positive for cancer without involvement of other nodes.
He was discharged 90 minutes following recovery in PACU without narcotics and experienced normal bowel function within 6 hours.
For select patients, standard of care may soon incorporate utilization of the SP DaVinci system because it is currently the least invasive approach and is related to lower morbidity and mortality.
