Single and dual antiplatelet therapy in elderly patients of medically managed myocardial infarction
BMC Geriatrics Apr 11, 2018
Lin TT, et al. - In real-world, medically managed elderly patients (> 85 years) with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), researchers assessed the comparative effectiveness between dual and single antiplatelet therapies. In this retrospective study, outcomes included all-cause death, cardiovascular death and gastrointestinal bleeding. Patients were classified as dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) group, aspirin only group and clopidogrel only group. Single antiplatelet therapy showed comparable protective impact as DAPT in this patient population. Clopidogrel only strategy was shown to be related to a higher risk of all-cause death.
